What was once the ancient city of Beit She’arim, hometown of Rabbi judah Hanasi, compiler of the Mishnah, is today a national park featuring the rich remains of the Roman-Byzantine town and a fascinating necropolis.
During excavations that were carried out at the site in the 1930’s and 40s, a large synagogue was Discovered, located on the slopes of a hill overlooking the lezreel Valley.
