Ancient Roman GlassUri Ramot was born in 1940.
In 1968 he graduated from the Betzarel Academy of Art in Jerusalem. His unique works were frequently awarded both in his homeland and abroad. His jewellery and ornaments reflect strong individuality of his style. He is the first artist who created modern ornaments and accessories using gold and silver as well as Ancient glass from the Roman to Islamic period dated from 1st to 12th century A.D. For his works Uri Ramot uses Ancient glass fragments coming from the archeological excavations in the land of Israel. Some of the fragments are transparent, some of them are coloured. Iridescence glittering on the surface of ancient glass is a result of a hundreds of years lapse of time. Fragments of glass buried under the earth for long time undergo chemical changes due to the special climate conditions and characteristic of soil what results in appearance of these beautiful colours. The surface of glass becomes shinning as it disintegrates into thin iridescent layers. Uri Ramot arranges each piece of glass into a unique work of art, so either jewellery or ornaments are original with no parallels. Ancient and modern reach wonderful harmony in his works.
Themes of the works are ancient ships, animals, abstractive objects, wide range of accessories, ritual untensils, musical instruments. Art lovers are able to find objects fitting their tastes.
